The latest episode of Game Changers featured acclaimed filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, offering a glimpse into her creative process and the inspirations behind her celebrated films. Speaking about how she develops story ideas, Akhtar shared how each film stems from a different source of inspiration.
Zoya Akhtar speaks on crafting Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do and Gully Boy: “Different inspirations lead to different stories”
“It’s different every time,” she explained. “For example, in Spain Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,” the trip appealed to me. When I made Dil Dhadakne Do, I wanted to show the patriarchal society and how the new generation of siblings can change the very nice relationship between brother and sister. So, that’s how the story developed. But in Gully Boy, I saw a rapper and wanted to tell his story, so that’s how that story developed. So, different inspirations lead to different stories.”
Akhtar’s ability to craft diverse narratives has made her one of the most respected filmmakers in Indian cinema. Her conversation on Game Changers provided valuable insight into her thought process, reaffirming her reputation as a storyteller who brings fresh perspectives to the screen.
