Mathys Tel signed for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022.
Manchester United appear to have planned to hijack a Tottenham target in the winter transfer window. After Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel reportedly rejected the chance to join Tottenham, it has been learnt that Manchester United are willing to sign the forward. As per Mirror, Manchester United have started talks with Tel’s representatives and Bayern Munich to secure a deal before the transfer deadline. Givemesport claimed that Manchester United have an interest in Tel, who would reportedly prefer signing for the Premier League giants despite agreeing to deal with Tottenham. Another English side Chelsea reportedly also have an interest in Tel. The France under-21 international is understood to be willing to get more game-time in the remainder of this season.
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl recently talked about Mathys Tel’s future. “Mathys is still a Bayern player. Accordingly, if he’s there tomorrow, he will hopefully be looking to score goals. That remains the case at the moment. There’s no new situation,” he said, as per Mirror.
“Mathys is a very gifted player, his move to Bayern was very good. Whether it’s a loan or a sale, we’ll see. It needs to be right for all parties,” Max Eberl added.
A report published by ESPN claimed that Mathys Tel has informed Bayern Munich about his desire to find new opportunities in the winter transfer window. Sources told ESPN that Tottenham had a €60 million ($62.5m) offer for Tel accepted by Bayern Munich earlier this week.
Tottenham have not had an impressive run in recent times winning one of their last 11 Premier League games. Spurs currently occupy the 15th place on the Premier League points table. They have so far collected 24 points from 23 games in the Premier League this season. It has been learnt that after their reported failure to rope in Tel, Tottenham have now shifted their focus to other transfer targets.
Mathys Tel has so far featured in 14 matches for Bayern Munich across all competitions this season. Tel signed for the Bavarian giants from French side Stade Rennes in the summer of 2022. Last year, the 19-year-old signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich until 30 June 2029. He won the Bundesliga in his first season at Bayern Munich.
