Himani Mor has been a national level tennis player with a huge and varied educational background.
Indian athletics superstar Neeraj Chopra broke the internet on Sunday by announcing his marriage to Himani Mor. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) he said he started the new year with his family.
“Grateful for every blessing that brought us to this moment together. Bound by love, happily ever after,” Neeraj said in the post, which has now gone viral.
This is the first time the sporting audience has learned about Himani so there’s not much information about her. However, according to reports, she hails from Larsauli in Haryana and has studied at Little Angels School, Sonipat, the same as Tennis star Sumit Nagal.
She is a tennis player with an education from Southeastern Louisiana University and also worked as a part-time Volunteer Assistant tennis coach at Franklin Pierce University.
Himani also pursued a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Physical Science at Delhi University’s Miranda House before moving to the US to continue her education. Her brother Himanshu also played tennis.
A graduate assistant at Amherst College, Himani manages the college’s women’s tennis team. She oversees training, scheduling, recruitment and budgets with the outfit.
She is also said to be currently pursuing her Masters in Science in sports management and administration from McCormack Isenberg School of Management.
Himani started playing in All India Tennis Association (AITA) events in 2018 and her career-best national ranking was 42 in singles and 27 in doubles in 2018.
Chopra’s uncle Bhim spoke to the media after the post went viral. He said the marriage took place in the country and the couple has left for honeymoon.
“Yes, the marriage took place in India two days back. I can’t tell the place where it took place,” Bhim told PTI from his village at Khandra near Panipat in Haryana.
“The girl is from Sonipat and she is studying in the US. They have left the country for honeymoon and I am not aware of the places where they are going. We wanted to keep it like that,” said Bhim, who stays with the Olympic double medallist at Khandra, when asked about the surprise development.
