Want To Score Well In NEET UG Exam? Follow These Tips

Make a subject-wise preparation strategy while studying.

In 2023, about 20 lakh candidates appeared in the NEET UG exam.

To become a doctor in India, you have to crack the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG). Only after this, you can even think of adding the title of doctor as a prefix to your name. NEET is one of the most important and challenging exams. In 2023, about 20 lakh candidates appeared in the exam. If you are preparing for NEET UG 2025, then keep these things in your mind.

NEET UG Exam structure

The NEET UG exam is based on 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), which are divided into three major subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Out of these, students must answer 180 questions. Each subject is divided into two sections – Section A will comprise 35 compulsory questions and Section B will have 15 optional questions, out of which 10 must be answered.

Make subject-wise prep strategy

To crack the NEET UG test, it is important to have a strategy. Adopting a specific strategy for each subject will help you in scoring well.

– Physics

It is a complex subject for many students. Make sure to memorise the formulae and understand the concept behind them. Pay extra attention to chapters and give weightage to Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Modern Physics. Regular practice will improve problem-solving and speed.

– Chemistry

Chemistry is divided into three parts: organic, inorganic and physical. In organic chemistry, focus on reaction mechanisms and numerical. In inorganic chemistry, concentrate on the periodic table and coordination compounds. Physical chemistry requires a strong understanding of thermodynamics and chemical equilibrium.

– Biology

This particular subject has the highest weightage in the exam. Focus on what’s more important like human physiology, genetics, and ecology. Emphasis on understanding rather than memorising.

Role of NCERT

NCERT books are extremely important for NEET UG preparation. These books are particularly used for Biology as about 90 percent of the questions in the exam will be from it. For Physics and Chemistry, you will need to rely on additional resources. For a strong conceptual foundation, use NCERT books.

Time Management Strategies

Apart from preparation, you need to make sure to complete the paper on time. To do that, you will need to practise at home and come up with time management strategies. Allocate just 60 minutes to complete the Physics and Chemistry part and take up to 90 minutes for Biology. During this time, attempt those questions whose answers you know completely and are confident about. You can come back to the difficult questions later.
