Nagpur: Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Mahayuti govt, accusing it of backtracking on its pre-election promises in particular agriculture loan waiver and increasing the honorarium of Ladki Bahin scheme.
Speaking to the press at his residence here, the former leader of the opposition alleged that the government has betrayed the people of Maharashtra. “The Mahayuti govt made big promises before the assembly elections in the state but is now acting dishonestly. Women are being declared ineligible under the Ladki Bahin scheme instead of fulfilling the commitment of increasing the dole to Rs 2100 from Rs 1500 as promised during the election campaign. They are reducing the number of beneficiaries, which is a grave injustice,” he said
The Brahmapuri MLA also alleged that internal differences among ministers have delayed the crop loan waiver. “The senior ministers now claim they never promised a loan waiver, which shows their true intent and lack of sincerity. This is a betrayal of public trust,” he said.
Demanding immediate action on loan waivers, he said, “The govt cannot shrug off its collective responsibility. They were quick to unite to share the spoils of power, but when it was time to fulfill the promises made to the farmers, they shied away. They must honour their commitments instead of making excuses.”
He also accused the government of doling out cash to lure voters. “This govt hikes prices for public services like ST buses, auto-rickshaws, and taxis during its term, but when elections approach, they done out ₹1,000 in cash to buy votes. This is their real character,” he alleged.
Box — Uddhav’s stand of going solo in local body polls not conveyed to Cong
When asked about Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s plan of contesting local body elections independently, Wadettiwar said, “We want the Maha Vikas Aghadi to remain intact, and we will work towards ensuring that the alliance survives. However, Uddhav Thackeray’s final stand on this issue has not been communicated to us yet. The Congress high command too has not taken any decision in this regard.”
