Volvo has confirmed that it will unveil the ES90 electric sedan on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The ES90 is touted to be the most technologically advanced car Volvo has ever made, and will serve as the new flagship model of the Swedish carmaker’s EV portfolio.
- Volvo ES90 will feature AI-powered autonomous driving tech
- ES90 will be dimensionally larger than the ICE-powered S90
- It may have the same 111kWh battery as the EX90 electric SUV
Volvo ES90 technical highlights

Since the ES90 will sit on the same electric SPA2 platform as the EX90 electric SUV, both EVs will share a lot of similarities under the skin. The electric sedan will sport two Nvidia computers claimed to be capable of performing 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS) when combined.
ES90 to get advanced autonomous driving tech
This computational strength will allow Volvo to feed more data to its artificial intelligence systems, which should improve the ES90’s collision avoidance and autonomous driving capabilities over time. Speaking of which, the ES90 will come equipped with a LiDAR box, 12 ultrasonic sensors, eight cameras, and five radars.
Much like the EX90, the ES90 will leverage Volvo’s Superset “tech stack,” which basically consolidates all the software and hardware for the drive, infotainment, autonomous, and other systems. This tech will offer over-the-air updates and be used in all future Volvo models.
Volvo ES90 exterior design

Volvo’s teaser image of the ES90 hints at styling cues adopted from the EX90, such as the recognisable ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights, closed-off grille, and vertically-oriented tail-lamps. The side profile of the ES90, meanwhile, echoes that of the plug-in hybrid S90 sold internationally. Prior leaks about the ES90 also revealed that the electric sedan will be slightly longer than the S90 at 4,999mm long, with its wheelbase measuring 3,100mm in an effort to maximise interior space.
Volvo ES90 battery and power output

ES90 will share its battery with the EX90 electric SUV
The ES90 will be available in single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive guises. Power will come from a huge 111kWh battery that could offer up to 600km of range (WLTP) for the single-motor model, and outputs will likely correspond with those of the EX90. Therefore, the all-wheel-drive ES90 could develop 408hp and 770Nm of torque as standard, and 517hp and 910Nm in Performance form.
Volvo parent company Geely will manufacture the ES90 at its production plant in Zhejiang, China.
