Volkswagen Tera India launch details, entry level SUV for Brazil, platform shared with Polo

After several teasers and camouflaged sightings, the Volkswagen Tera was recently unveiled in Brazil as the brand’s new entry-level SUV. On the design front, the Tera seems to be drawing cues from the larger Tiguan SUV. It sports a two-part LED DRL signature within the slim headlamps, the bumper gets a contrasting black finish for the grille and air intakes at the edges, and it has a very prominent shoulder line with muscular fenders. In profile, the A- and B-pillars and the roof have a contrasting black finish, while at the rear the stubby tail lamps are connected by a contrasting black trim. Additionally, the bumpers also get some gloss black garnishes.

Volkswagen Tera interior and features

The interior of the Tera looks familiar from any modern, compact VW model. For instance, the steering wheel, centre console area and the touch-based HVAC panel look similar to the India-spec Taigun, but instead of a dashboard-integrated touchscreen, the Tera gets a free-standing unit. In terms of features, the Tera also comes equipped with 10-inch digital instrument cluster, connected car features, wireless charger, ambient lights and an ADAS package.

Volkswagen Tera engine and platform details

The Volkswagen Tera is based on the MQB A0 platform, which is not to be confused with the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform. The former also underpins the latest-gen Polo abroad, which means the Tera is likely to measure just above 4 meters in length. And while Volkswagen hasn’t revealed the engine lineup yet, the Tera can be expected to share the Polo’s 1.0-litre TSI petrol and flex fuel engine options in Brazil.

Is the Volkswagen Tera coming to India?

No, the Volkswagen Tera is not on cards for an India launch. The Tera has been fully designed and developed in Brazil, and will also be produced there. Apart from the domestic market, the Tera will also be exported to other Latin American countries and to Africa as well.
