These agreements cover connectivity, artificial intelligence, customs inspection and quarantine, agricultural trade, culture and sports, public welfare, human resource development and media, a Chinese state-controlled media outlet reported.
Vietnam and China have signed over 40 cooperation pacts, as visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping cautioned that ‘protectionism will lead nowhere’ and that a trade war would produce ‘no winner’.
The pacts cover customs inspection and quarantine, and agricultural trade.
Xi said both sides should jointly oppose bullying practices, and work to maintain the stability of industrial and supply chains.
Xi held talks with Vietnam’s top leaders. He is visiting Vietnam for the first time since December 2023.
He is in Vietnam till today, before visiting Malaysia and Cambodia.
Speaking during a meeting with Lam Monday, Xi said Vietnam and China were “standing at the turning point of history… and should move forward with joint hands.”
Xi earlier urged the two countries to “resolutely safeguard the multilateral trading system, stable global industrial and supply chains, and open and cooperative international environment”.
Vietnam’s President To Lam said in an article posted on the government’s news portal that his country “is always ready to join hands with China to make cooperation between the two countries more substantive, profound, balanced and sustainable”.
During the visit, Xi noted that both China and Vietnam are beneficiaries of economic globalisation, and the two sides should strengthen strategic resolve, jointly oppose unilateralism and bullying practices, and work together to uphold the global free trade system and maintain the stability of industrial and supply chains.
