Schools Closed In Varanasi: In light of the growing influx of devotees travelling from Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh to Varanasi, the District Magistrate of Varanasi has issued an order to close all schools in the district from January 27 to February 5, 2025.

However, online classes will be held at the usual school timings to ensure the syllabus is completed. This directive applies to all CBSE, ICSE, and state board schools in the district.

Additionally, if any board practical exams are scheduled, they will continue without any interruptions.

This decision has been taken primarily to address the challenges posed by massive crowds and potential traffic issues, ensuring the safety of students and smooth functioning of the city.

The District Basic Education Officer Arvind Pathak, in an official notice, stated: “Given the current situation in the district, particularly in urban areas, where a large number of pilgrims and devotees are expected to arrive, all government, aided, CBSE, and ICSE schools offering classes from Grade 1 to 12 are instructed to switch to online learning from January 27 to February 5, 2025. Moreover, if any practical exams for CBSE, UP Board, or other boards are scheduled during this time, they should be conducted seamlessly without disruption.”

According to the order, school staff, and teachers have been asked to attend school during this time.

This year, Mauni Amavasya falls on January 29, during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. As a result, a large number of devotees have started arriving in Varanasi. Officials estimate that around 5 to 7 lakh devotees are visiting the city every day leading up to the occasion. Due to the crowd, most schools have been asked to hold online classes. Students and parents are advised to stay in contact with their schools for the latest updates.
