Indian Railways is bringing a new wave of high-speed, world-class travel to long-distance rail commuters with the upcoming launch of Vande Bharat sleeper trains. Following successful trials, which achieved a peak speed of 180 km/h in the Kota Division, the new sleeper trains are set to offer a much-needed upgrade in comfort and speed for those travelling across the country.

Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the trial run on X, showcasing a glass of water remaining stable inside the train, even at 180 km/h, highlighting the smooth travel experience these trains promise. This milestone came after three days of successful trials, with the train reaching top speeds in multiple test runs, such as a 30 km stretch between Kota and Laban in Rajasthan.

The Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed with modern features, including automatic doors, ultra-comfortable berths, onboard Wi-Fi, and a sleek aircraft-like interior. They aim to revolutionise long-distance travel on major routes, including Delhi to Mumbai and Howrah to Chennai, by reducing travel times significantly compared to current services.

After the ongoing trials conclude later this month, the trains will undergo evaluation by the Railway Safety Commissioner before being certified for regular service. The Vande Bharat sleeper trains will be available to the public soon, offering not just speed, but an elevated, luxurious travel experience.
