US Upland cotton sales up 10%, Pima also on rise: USDA

Net sales of Upland cotton in the United States for the 2024–25 season totalled 348,900 running bales (RB), each weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds), during the week ending 16 January 2025. This marks an increase of 10 per cent compared to the previous week and a rise of 62 per cent from the prior four-week average.

Net sales of Upland cotton for 2024–25 in the US reached 348,900 RB, up 10 per cent from the prior week and 62 per cent from the four-week average, led by Vietnam, Pakistan, and Türkiye.
Exports were 222,600 RB, up 32 per cent.
Pima sales totalled 6,100 RB, up 81 per cent, led by China and Türkiye.
Exports of 3,300 RB dropped 60 per cent, with key destinations in Asia.

Net sales of Upland cotton in the United States for the 2024-25 season totalled 348,900 running bales (RB), each weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds), during the week ending January 16, 2025. This marks an increase of 10 per cent compared to the previous week and a rise of 62 per cent from the prior four-week average.

According to the weekly sales report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), released on Friday evening, the increases were primarily for Vietnam (94,500 RB, including 200 RB switched from South Korea), Pakistan (75,400 RB), Türkiye (66,800 RB), Bangladesh (36,500 RB, including 2,100 RB late), and Nicaragua (23,400 RB). The net sales of 79,800 RB for 2025–26 were primarily for Indonesia (70,400 RB), Türkiye (4,400 RB), and Italy (3,300 RB).

The exports of 222,600 RB for the week were down 1 per cent from the previous week but up 32 per cent from the prior four-week average. The destinations were primarily Pakistan (60,000 RB), Vietnam (47,800 RB), China (19,800 RB), Mexico (17,600 RB), and Türkiye (14,100 RB).

Net sales of Pima totalling 6,100 RB for 2024–25 were up noticeably from the previous week and up 81 per cent from the prior four-week average. Increases were primarily for China (4,600 RB), Türkiye (400 RB), Italy (300 RB), Thailand (300 RB), and Pakistan (300 RB). The exports of 3,300 RB were down 60 per cent from the previous week and 64 per cent from the prior four-week average. The destinations were primarily Pakistan (900 RB), Vietnam (900 RB), India (700 RB), Türkiye (400 RB), and Peru (200 RB).
