Bharat Ratna 2024 Award List:

India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna award, was established in 1954 to honour outstanding contribution in all spheres of human endeavour, regardless of gender, ethnicity, status, or occupation. The Bharat Ratna award honours the outstanding accomplishments of the most illustrious people in India. Karpoori Thakur, M. S. Swaminathan, Charan Singh, P. V. Narasimha Rao, and L. K. Advani were awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024.

India Launches Its First Space Docking Mission

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) reported that two spacecraft were successfully detached and put into the proper orbit on December 31. The spacecraft will help the ISRO demonstrate space docking, a crucial technology for future space missions. Later, ISRO released stunning images of the slow-motion liftoff and onboard views of the SpaDeX launch.

Murlikant Petkar To Get Arjuna Award For Lifetime Achievement

The Sports Ministry made some additional adjustments and gave India’s first gold medallist at the Paralympic Games, para-swimmer Murlikant Rajaram Petkar, the coveted Arjuna Award (Lifetime), 52 years after he made history in Heidelberg, Germany. On January 17, 2025, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will present the 80-year-old Petkar with his award at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Padma Shri was given to Petkar in 2018.

National Sports Awards 2024

On January 2, the men’s hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh, shooter Manu Bhaker, chess world champion D Gukesh, and para-athlete Praveen Kumar were announced as the recipients of this year’s Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the country’s greatest sporting accolade. The ‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award’ is given to an athlete for their most remarkable and exceptional accomplishment during the preceding four years.

Koneru Humpy Grabs Historic Rapid Chess World Title

On December 29, Grandmaster Koneru Humpy defeated Irene Sukandar of Indonesia to win the FIDE Women’s World Rapid Chess title, capping an incredible year for Indian chess. In 2019, Humpy won the event in Georgia, and the Indian No. 1 is just the second player after Ju Wenjun of China to win the title more than once. After D Gukesh just defeated China’s Ding Liren to win the classical style World Championship in Singapore, Humpy’s accomplishment capped off an incredible year for the chess community.
