At the inaugural major tourism event of 2024- FITUR, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is set to place a strong emphasis on fostering investment opportunities and strengthening international partnerships. The event will feature various highlights aimed at promoting sustainable development, climate action, and enhanced collaboration within the global tourism sector.
One significant aspect of the event is the focus on investment, where UNWTO will host key investment forums. Notably, there will be a dedicated “Invest in Zambia” event, and in collaboration with the Investment Bank for Latin America (CAF), the organization will officially launch its “Investment Guidelines for Ecuador.” These guidelines aim to shed light on the promising tourism investment prospects in these regions.
Sustainable development and climate action will be addressed through a Meeting of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability. This session will tackle the sustainability challenges prevalent in the global tourism sector. Additionally, UNWTO will host a meeting of the signatories of the Glasgow Declaration, highlighting the shared commitment to addressing climate challenges in the tourism industry.
Coordination and collaboration will be at the forefront too as UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili will engage in a series of bilateral meetings with Ministers of Tourism from all world regions. The objective, said UNWTO, is to foster collaboration and strengthen partnerships to advance tourism for sustainable development. The yearly presence of UNWTO at FITUR (International Tourism Trade Fair) underscores its commitment to driving positive change within the sector. The organization remains dedicated to fostering sustainable practices, encouraging responsible investments, and facilitating global partnerships.
UNWTO has extended an invitation to all stakeholders, industry professionals, and the public to participate in the dialogue at FITUR 2024. With Ecuador as the official partner country, the FITUR International Tourism Trade Fair, taking place in Madrid from January 23 to 26, will once again serve as a platform for global tourism innovation and collaboration.
