Two students of Ashoka University were found dead on Friday night in Sonipat, Haryana, confirmed the varsity in an official statement.
The two were undergraduate students and died in separate incidents, reported The Indian Express. An investigation was launched by the authorities into the two deaths.
As per the university, the authorities allegedly found a suicide note in one of the student’s room soon after he was found dead. According to the Hindustan Times, the student died by suicide after jumping from the 10th floor of the university’s building.
After a few hours, they received a report of another student found unconscious at the main gate of the campus.
Sonipat deputy commissioner of police (crime) Narender Kadiyan said a purported suicide note was discovered by the investigators.
“The note does not provide specific details. We are not certain whether it is a case of suicide or murder. The post-mortem will give clarity on the cause of death,” he added, reported Hindustan Times.
According to the Sonipat police, the dead bodies of the students were sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
Varsity Says Read To Co-operate In Probe
Vice-Chancellor Somak Raychaudhury’s office sent an email to the alumni and students in which it was said that the physician on duty had evaluated the students at the campus infirmary before they were taken to the nearest hospital in the ambulance of the university. The hospital then pronounced them dead.
In the early hours of Saturday, the parents of both students were informed by the university officials.
“They will be arriving shortly… (The two) were bright students with promising futures ahead of them. They will be remembered by all as gifted students whose untimely passing away has left the Ashoka community devastated,” the email read.
The university, in a statement, said, “The departed students were integral members of the Ashoka community and will be deeply missed by all. Our hearts go out to the bereaved family members, and we are providing all the support required in their hour of grief.”
The university has said that it will fully co-operate with the police in the ongoing investigation.
The police officers are recording the statements of staff and students and are investigating the personal, academic and social lives of both of them.
