In a candid interview with Filmfare, Triptii Dimri discussed her journey in Bollywood, shedding light on her choice to play a significant role in the 2023 blockbuster Animal. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, faced criticism for being “anti-feminist.” Addressing these claims, Dimri shared that she never saw the film through that lens, emphasizing her focus on the character and the challenge it posed.
Triptii Dimri confesses she didn’t see Animal as an “anti-feminist” film: “I have only done goody and nice person roles”
“I didn’t look at it as an anti-feminist film. I don’t give such tags to films. Even while doing Bulbbul and Qala, I never thought I was doing a feminist film,” she explained. Dimri added that her connection to the role and trust in the director drove her decision to join the project.
Stepping Into a Grey Character in Animal
Triptii’s portrayal in Animal marked a significant departure from her previous roles in films like Bulbbul and Qala. In Animal, she played a grey character, acting as a mole in Ranbir Kapoor’s character’s life. Reflecting on her experience, she recalled Vanga’s direction:
“He wanted to see innocence and kindness in my eyes but inside I should have that mission in my heart, that I want to accomplish. How do I get there, that was my job. I found it challenging and interesting, and that’s what made me say yes.”
Dimri also highlighted her excitement about exploring a more complex character. She shared, “I have only done goody and nice person roles – who get sympathy at the end – till now. This was a nice space to be in.”
The Appeal of a Big-Budget Film
Apart from the challenging role, Triptii admitted that the scale of Animal was a major draw. “Everybody wants to do a big film,” she said. After the critical success of her earlier projects, Dimri expressed a desire to work in mainstream cinema and learn from the process of making large-scale films.
“At that time, getting a big film was a big deal for me. Maybe I’ll get to learn something new and see how big films are made,” she added.
Following the success of Animal, Triptii is set to appear in Dhadak 2 alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi.
