Jammu and Kashmir, a land of breathtaking beauty and immense potential, long struggled with isolation and underdevelopment. However, over the past decade, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a remarkable transformation was set in motion—one driven by infrastructure and connectivity.
Guided by the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, the govt focused on integrating J&K into India’s development framework. This transformation aims to unlock the region’s economic potential, empower its citizens, and reinforce its national integration through modern infrastructure.
For decades, J&K’s rugged geography posed a challenge to trade, tourism, and mobility. However, this narrative is changing. Today, the region is witnessing rapid progress in roads, highways, tunnels, and bridges, revolutionising connectivity and improving lives.
Infrastructure: The Key to Progress
Since independence, J&K faced difficulties due to its remote location and security concerns. Poor infrastructure limited trade, industry, and employment. In 2014, the govt made infrastructure a priority, launching a development plan that is now transforming the region.
Improved transportation and logistics are paving the way for economic revitalisation. Farmers can transport their produce more efficiently, businesses have wider market access, and tourism is flourishing. Each infrastructure project generated thousands of jobs, empowering the local population and contributing to regional prosperity.
Overcoming Challenges with Innovation
Developing infrastructure in J&K has not been easy. The region’s mountainous terrain, harsh weather, and security issues presented major obstacles. However, by leveraging cutting-edge technology, innovative planning, and the dedication of engineers and workers, these challenges are being overcome.
The infrastructure push in J&K is not just about building roads and tunnels—it is about building trust and hope. It is about making J&K an integral part of India’s growth story.
Boosting Tourism and Connectivity
To enhance tourism, 54 ropeway projects are in development, with an initial 2,000 crore investment. The Shankaracharya Temple Ropeway in Srinagar and the Baltal to Amarnathji ropeway will significantly improve accessibility for pilgrims and tourists.
Additionally, the Jammu-Srinagar corridor is undergoing a major transformation, with 45,000 crore allocated for multiple road corridors to cut travel time and improve regional connectivity.
Jammu & Kashmir: A Hub of Opportunity
Infrastructure development in J&K is not just about roads and tunnels; it is about unlocking the region’s true potential. Connectivity is key to economic growth, national security, and social integration. The govt envisions J&K as a thriving contributor to India’s development, with robust infrastructure enabling trade, tourism, and employment.
J&K is now at the heart of India’s growth story, proving that Viksit Bharat is possible only with strong transportation networks. As the govt continues to bridge physical and emotional distances, the dream of an inclusive and prosperous Jammu & Kashmir is becoming a reality.
Major Infrastructure Projects
A 1 lakh crore investment was allocated for road and tunnel construction across the country, with a strong focus on J&K. Key projects include:
– Z-Morh Tunnel: A 6.5-km tunnel ensuring year-round connectivity to Leh, Sonmarg, and Kargil.
– Zojila Tunnel: A 14-km tunnel that will be Asia’s highest-altitude tunnel, reducing travel time between Srinagar and Leh by 3.5 hours.
– Srinagar Ring Road: A 104-km four-lane highway aimed at decongesting Srinagar, set for completion by 2026.
– Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway: A 41,000 crore, 670-km expressway reducing travel time between Delhi and Katra, boosting connectivity and economic development.
