The ninth-generation Toyota Camry is built on the TNGA-K platform, which is said to improve stability and driving dynamics by lowering the centre of gravity and seating position. While retaining its familiar silhouette, the Camry’s design has been fairly refreshed.

Its face gets Toyota’s “hammerhead” styling, which features a sharp nose, slim LED headlamps, and U-shaped daytime running lights. A narrow grille seamlessly connects the headlights, the ‘T’ logo has moved up compared to its predecessor, and the bumpers sport an almost Lexus-like anvil shape. A bold new character line along the side, redesigned 18-inch alloys and new ‘C’-shaped LED tail lamps round off the design highlights.

This updated setup is said to deliver a 4 percent increase in combined power output, and has a total output of 230hp, which is about 12hp more than the outgoing model. Fuel efficiency is also said to see a significant improvement, with Toyota claimsing it is over 30 percent more frugal. Like other hybrids in the family, the Camry uses an eCVT gearbox.

Like its predecessors, Toyota has been importing the Camry via the CKD route since the seventh generation launched in 2013, the new model will be assembled at the brand’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka.
