In this episode, Dr. Shai L. Butler shares her experience of withdrawing her candidacy for a presidential role in higher education. She explains what was keeping her up at night, her decision-making processes, and why she ultimately made the decision to not make an upward career move.
Dr. Butler says, as she deliberated the decision to withdraw herself from the hiring process, “I was living in a head space when I needed to be in a heart and head space. And that’s why I didn’t have peace. That’s why the process that I utilized was helpful. It helped me to be more self-intuitive. It helped me to ask myself the right questions. It helped me to hear from and acknowledge my old friends.”
Dr. Butler shares her advice for anyone going through the same career stages and transitions who do not feel at peace in their current career situation.
Kelly and Andy then discuss “Career Advice I Wish I’d Known a Decade Ago” an article published on HigherEdJobs. The two share how their careers have changed over the past decade and the importance of mentorship in our careers.
