VARANASI: Vindhyachal police in Mirzapur have arrested a taxi driver for crushing a 50-year-old man to death under his SUV near Mahokhar village on Monday.
The accused, Amjad Khan, has been booked under the charges of murdering and breaching peace. The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Dhar Dubey.
Rajesh’s brother, Rakesh Dhar Dubey, in his complaint alleged that while travelling in Amjad’s taxi, they were discussing political scenario in the country when the driver started abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath. When others in the cab raised objection over it, Amjad pushed out Rajesh from the vehicle and crushed him under it.
SP Mirzapur Santosh Kumar Mishra on Tuesday said that on the complaint of Rakesh Dhar Dubey, an FIR was lodged against Amjad under section 302 (murder) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) on Monday. After six hours of the incident, Vindhyachal police arrested Amjad.
During initial interrogation, Amjad claimed that each passenger in his taxi was asking to drop them at their doorstep, said Mishra adding, Amjad was asking them to deboard at one place as he had to reach the place of person, who had booked his vehicle. Amjad claimed before police that after going out of the vehicle Rajesh turned back all of a sudden and fell on the road thus coming under the wheels of the SUV. Mishra said that police were investigating all the aspects on the incident.
Rakesh, a native of Kolahi village under Vindhyachal police station, in his complaint informed the police that after attending the marriage of his son, he along with Rajesh, Dhirendra Pandey and Lalji Mishra were returning home in Amjad’s taxi. During the journey, they all were discussing political scenario, which made Amjad upset and he started hurling abusive words for PM and CM, alleged Rakesh adding, when they objected to it, Amjad threw Rajesh out of the vehicle and crushed him to death.
“Before we could understand anything, Amjad left the vehicle and ran away by shouting that he wanted to kill Rajesh in Mirzapur but got the opportunity near Mahokhar village,” alleged Rakesh.
