Streets, houses submerged after heavy rain in Nagpur; traffic disrupted | Nagpur News

NAGPUR: Residents of low-lying areas woke up to flooded streets, underbridges and houses after heavy rain lashed the city in the wee hours of Thursday. The heavy downpour and waterlogging led to traffic disruptions in parts of the city.

The roughly an-hour heavy downpour from midnight to 1am inundated many parts of the city.
“The streets were waterlogged and rainwater entered many houses in north, east, south and west Nagpur,” officials from Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s fire and emergency services department said.

No loss of life or house collapse incidents were reported, said fire officials.
Like every year, NMC’s monsoon preparedness was laid bare.
Narendra Nagar railway underbridge, airport road too were submerged in waist-deep water.
Since morning, there were complaints related to accumulation of water in basements, they said.
Personnel from fire department have started dewatering drive in several areas.
“Apart from clearing choked stormwater networks, firemen also pressed electric pumps for dewatering submerged houses in Padole Nagar and Omkar Nagar,” said NMC’s spokesperson.
