Nagpur: The eighth edition of the Royal Premier Cricket League (RPCL) will kick-off from January 18. This year 32 teams will vie for top honours in the tournament to be held at Mecosabagh Methodist School ground, Kadbi Chowk.
The tournament will be played in league-cum-knockout basis. The 32 participating teams have been divided into eight groups. Top two teams from each group will make the cut for the knockout rounds, said Irfan Razzak, secretary of RPCL.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with a cash prize of Rs2 lakh while the runners-up will get Rs1 lakh.Apart from these, individual prizes, including man of the match in every game, and other individual prizes will also be given, said Sunny Dudani.
Collector Vipin Itankar, and Vicky Kukreja, former corporator, will inaugurate the tournament on January 18. Attacking Vidarbha batter Shubham Dubey, who was picked by Gujarat Giants for Rs5.80 crore in IPL auction, will also be present during the inauguration function. A managing committee has been constituted for the smooth conduct of the tournament, the organisers informed. tnn
