Rohit Sharma will be seen playing in the Ranji Trophy after nine long years when he appears for his state side, Mumbai, in their match against Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, in Mumbai — beginning Thursday.
India’s Test and ODI captain hopes to end his dry spell with the bat ahead of the 50-overs series at home against England, which will be followed by the ICC Champions Trophy.

While Rohit fights it out in the domestic circuit, Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the five-match T20I series, which will mark the beginning of England’s white-ball tour.

Rohit’s last Ranji Trophy appearance was in November 2015, where he struck an impressive 113 from 140 balls against Uttar Pradesh in a drawn contest.
His recent run in Test cricket has been concerning, particularly during the tour of Australia where he could only muster 31 runs across five innings in three Test matches.
The 2024-25 Test season proved particularly challenging for Rohit, yielding just 164 runs from eight matches and 15 innings at a modest average of 10.93. His highest was his lone half-century (52) against Bangladesh.
His captaincy too faced a challenging period lately. Prior to the Australia tour, India suffered their first home Test series loss in 12 years, succumbing to New Zealand 0-3. Down Under, India lost the BGT 1-3, with India’s lone win coming under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, while Rohit was away on paternity leave.
Now, Rohit would hope to regain his confidence in batting with some runs under his belt before he returns to ODI action against England and hope it marks a turnaround in his captaincy stint as well.
