Choreographer and filmmaker Remo D’Souza aimed at bringing a new narrative to the screen with his latest film, Be Happy starring Abhishek Bachchan, Inaya Verma, and Nora Fatehi, now streaming on Prime Video. Known for his dance-centric films, D’Souza takes a different approach with this emotional drama, which explores the bond between a father and daughter. Inspired by real-life stories he encountered as a judge on dance reality shows, Be Happy presents a heartfelt story of resilience, dreams, and family relationships.
Remo D’Souza opens up about casting Abhishek Bachchan in Be Happy; “He surprised me at every turn with his performance”
In a recent discussion, the filmmaker-producer explained the reason behind the casting of Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role, and stated, “When it came to casting Shiv, Abhishek Bachchan was my first and only choice. He is an exceptional actor, and while he is also a skilled dancer, audiences don’t primarily associate him with dance. That contrast made him the perfect fit for the role. I wanted someone without a traditional dancing background to add authenticity to the character’s journey. Abhishek surprised me at every turn with his performance, and I can’t wait for audiences to witness the depth and emotion he brings to this film.”
Discussing his inspiration behind the film, Remo shared, “The story of Be Happy has been with me for years. I have always wanted to tell a deeply emotional tale about a father and daughter. The inspiration came from the countless real-life stories I’ve witnessed as a judge on dance reality shows. Seeing young kids chase their dreams despite immense struggles, I felt compelled to bring one such story to the big screen. With the support of a brilliant writer’s room, the narrative took shape, and everyone who heard it instantly resonated with it. This film is incredibly close to my heart because it is unlike anything I have done before.”
Produced under the banner of Remo D’Souza Entertainment by Lizelle Remo D’Souza, the film follows the journey of a single father and his daughter. The ensemble cast also includes Nassar, Johny Lever, Harleen Sethi in supporting parts along with Abhishek Bachchan, Nora Fatehi. Be Happy is available for streaming on Prime Video in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
