WWE superstar Randy Orton stunned legendary John Cena with his trademark RKO to set the ball rolling ahead of the great duo’s much-awaited ‘Backlash’ fight in the ring in May.
Orton shocked Cena by arriving out of nowhere from the back and putting him down with his famous RKO move while the stalwart was interacting with the crowd at Monday night RAW.
Cena held the golden WWE championship belt in his hand and told the crowd to “make sure to get a great picture because the last real champ is here”.
Just then, commentators picked out Orton’s face behind Cena, and as the latter turned back, the RKO specialist unravelled his signature move on the WWE champion.
It was a statement move from Orton, who will flex his muscles against Cena at the ‘Backlash’ event scheduled for May 10.
Cena was on a high inside the ring at Monday night (April 21) RAW, having defeated Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania 41 to become the undisputed WWE champion with the most WWE titles in history.
Cena had earlier announced Sunday’s Wrestlemania fight against Rhodes to be his last and explained why he had taken the tough retirement call in his ESPN interview with UFC legend Daniel Cormier.
“What I was trying to do is state facts, and me being honest with my record led me to be like ‘I got to retire.’ The reason I hadn’t had a lot of success in the WWE is that I’m a part-time participant. This needs to consume your life to be great,” Cena said.
“Not only consume your life, but you also have to be curious, passionate, open, and humble. Man, I can only imagine that if you are not fully focused, coachable and 100% involved in fight training. So in I’m trying to split time and thinking that I can do both. I just did this a lot less and less and was used accordingly.”
Cena’s fans now expect him to set the record straight one last time against Orton at the ‘Backlash’ event that will be held in St Louis and streamed live to Indian audiences on Netflix.
