At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Ranbir Kapoor addressed an audience member’s critique regarding his films Animal (2023) and Sanju (2018). The individual expressed concerns about the glorification of violence in these films, stating, “Animal and Sanju suggest that anything can be achieved with violence,” and suggested that such films should not be encouraged. The attendee also lauded older films for their storytelling.

Ranbir Kapoor REACTS to audience member’s concerns over Animal and Sanju: “It is our responsibility to bring movies which…”

Reacting to the remarks, Kapoor said, “I completely agree with your opinion. As an actor, it is our responsibility to bring movies which bring a positive change to society. Having said that, I’m an actor, it’s very important that I also dabble in different genres and different characters and play varied roles. But what you are saying is absolutely correct. We have to be more responsible towards the kind of films we make.”

Mixed Reception for Animal

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal is an action drama that explores themes of family dynamics, toxic masculinity, and redemption. The film has been both praised for its intense performances and criticised for its graphic violence and depictions of misogyny. Featuring a stellar cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, the film opened to mixed reviews.

Ranbir’s Journey in Sanju

Released in 2018, Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is a biographical film based on the tumultuous life of actor Sanjay Dutt. Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Dutt earned him widespread acclaim. The film also starred Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, and Anushka Sharma, among others. However, it faced criticism for allegedly glorifying Dutt’s controversies.

Upcoming Projects for Ranbir Kapoor

Looking ahead, Ranbir Kapoor will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly anticipated Love and War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The project, officially announced earlier this year, is set to release in 2025. Kapoor is also part of Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana, starring opposite Sai Pallavi, marking his entry into a mythological epic.
