The Hindi version of Pushpa: The Rise, the first film in the franchise by Sukumar, released in December 2021 without much fanfare and that too with 50% occupancy rule because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It had a decent opening. However, the word-of-mouth started spreading and Allu Arjun starrer action entertainer turned out to be a sleeper hit in Hindi against all odds. Pushpa 2: The Rule, the second movie, has literally stormed the box office in Hindi. The film has gone onto earn over Rs. 450 crores in its extended first week.
Coming to the territory wise breakdown of the film in Hindi, it has earned the most in the Mumbai territory with Rs. 132 crores. This has ensured that the film has reached the number eight position in the list of top 10 highest earners in the Mumbai territory. The film easily surpassed the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal, which had made Rs. 112.29 crores in this territory, to take the eighth place.
The list is topped by SS Rajamouli’s all-time blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion with Rs. 191.58 crores. This is followed by Stree 2 (Rs. 189.87 crores), Pathaan (Rs. 166.52 crores), Gadar 2 (Rs. 147.33 crores) and Jawan (Rs. 141.09 crores). Stree 2 earning higher in this territory than the two Shah Rukh Khan one Sunny Deol blockbuster is a major surprise.
Coming back to Pushpa 2, the film has entered the top 10 in Mumbai territory in just week one (extended). It still has a long way to go at the box office. Hence, it is expected to move much higher in the list.
