Everton boss David Moyes, who returned to the club following the sacking of Sean Dyche, has lifted the club from the Premier League drop zone with 14 points out of their previous 18 to renew a sense of freshness about the side.
With the ongoing season drawing to a close, Everton have steadily moved away from the relegation places and head coach Moyes opined that it would be wise to keep an eye on the season while also conjuring up plans for the upcoming campaign when the Toffees will move to their new stadium in Bramley-Moore Dock.
“We used to always talk about 40 points as managers and I think because I’m an old one I think I’m going to keep talking about 40 points,” Moyes said.
“For us, whether are in the bottom three or out of it, we’ve got to try to make sure that we’re getting to 40 points or more if we possibly can,” the 61-year-old said.
“I want to be positive and I want to say that we’re going to be in the Premier League. That’s the way I feel and that’s what I’m saying to the players,” he continued.
“We still have work to do to do that but I do think that we have to start making some initial plans and getting things in place for hopefully another year in the Premier League,” the Toffees boss added.
With multiple big names out of a contract with the club at the end of the season, Moyes opined that the final push of the ongoing season would be a fine proving grounds for players to put their hand up an perform for the side.
“I actually think the players here have got something to show,” he said.
“They all have to show to show to this new manager how they can perform,” the Scott said.
“They’ve done great for me in the opening games. I’d hate to think that for them the season is only the 26 games we’ve played at the moment,” the former Manchester United boss added.
“All the players will want their futures sorted out but I think this club’s just got its future sorted out,” he signed off.
Everton take on Brentford in their next Premier League encounter and will head to the Gtech Community Stadium with 31 points to their name in their 26 assignments so far this season.
