PATIALA: The police in Patiala, in another encounter, have nabbed one more accused who was among the four accused involved in allegedly snatching a car on January 27 night at a gunpoint and opened fire in the air before assaulting the car owner with a knife who later succumbed to injuries.
The police said that the accused, identified as Sukhdeep Singh Ugga of a village in Dhuri was injured in a police encounter on Saturday near Buta Singh wala village of Sanour in Patiala. The police claimed to have recovered a .32 bore weapon and four cartridges from his possession and registered a case at Sanour police station under sections of IPC including attempt to murder and Arms Act sections.
“The accused Sukhdeep was asked by the police team to stop and get checked but he came out of his car and opened fire on the police team following which he was requested by the cops to surrender but in vain. The police team was forced to open fire in retaliation in which the accused Sukhdeep was injured and admitted to the government hospital in Patiala”, said police adding that Sukhdeep had a criminal record with four cases registered against him in the past at different police stations and he was also declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO) in one of the cases by Nabha court.
The police said Sukhdeep along with his accomplices had snatched an i20 car from Ludhiana in which they also kidnapped a woman in the car and abandoned her near Amargarh, around 60 km away from the spot of car snatching in Ludhiana. The case in this regard was registered at Sadar Ludhiana police station on January 28 under sections of IPC including kidnapping and Arms Act sections.
Notably, earlier on January 31, the police had arrested one of the accused – Abhishek of Dhuri, in this case after a shootout at Bhadson road in Patiala. Abhishek was also injured and admitted to hospital and weapons and cartridges were confiscated from his possession.
The other accused in Patiala robbery case including Dinesh Kumar, 19, of Patiala was nabbed on Tuesday while Sahil Kumar, 20, and Yogesh Moria, 19, of Rampuraphul, Bathinda were nabbed on January 31.
