Critics have been quick to already start writing off the defending four-time consecutive PL champions after their poor streak lately, but Dias is all about embracing the challenge
It’s always easier to talk down on someone at their weakest. Yet, Manchester City’s Ruben Dias loves the challenge, as the skipper sent out a war cry to all their doubters, echoing his belief in the club to rise to the top yet again despite their recent turmoil.
City, who are in the midst of an injury crisis, have also hit an unprecendented dry streak, losing every one of their last four games, a feat that transpired for the first time ever in boss Pep Guardiola’s career as a coach.
It all started in the Carabao Cup for City who fell to Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 duel, which as followed by a loss with the same scoreline against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
But, things took a turn for the worst when Guardiola’s men were left shell-shocked by now-Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon in a 4-1 travesty in the UEFA Champions League last week.
Their unlucky streak of loss carried over to the PL yet again, as Man City were stunned 2-1 by Brighton this past weekend, pushing City to second place, five points behind table-toppers Liverpool.
“It’s normal that times like this come, mostly because so many people want to take us down,” Dias expounded to BBC Sport.
‘We accept it, we embrace it, that’s part of the challenge. That’s why we love it so much. If not for this, our wins wouldn’t be as big as they are. It’s the life we live and we love it for it. We just keep on doing what we do best.”
Critics have been quick to already start writing off the defending four-time consecutive PL champions, but Dias is all about embracing the challenge and reinstated his faith in his side to overturn their fortunes and get back on track as always.
“Please doubt us,” Dias said, in a manner of throwing the gauntlet out for anyone who doubted City.
It’s our legacy at stake. Even though we’ve won so much, it’s very easy to choose to relax and just accept it. Accept the fact that we’ve done enough. But you’ve only done enough when you’re finished and we’re all very aware of it and we all want to keep pushing.”
Guardiola’s side will hope to return to winning ways when they take on Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs, this time in the Premier League, on November 23, after the international break.
