The Performance, Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH) is gearing up to conduct the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024. This new assessment replaces the National Achievement Survey (NAS), conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) since 2001. It is an independent evaluation centre established by the NCERT and was proposed in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The survey is competency-based, and stage-specific, and looks into the life skills of close to 22 lakh children from 782 districts. The assessment is scheduled to take place tomorrow, December 4 for students of classes 3, 6, and 9 across govt and private schools in Delhi.

Earlier known as the National Achievement Survey (NAS), this survey is conducted every three years. This survey was last conducted in 2021. This survey is done to measure and monitor the progress of school education in India. Under this, school education is evaluated at the national level, due to the Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development, it has now been named as PARAKH National Survey 2024.

This time the survey is being conducted as per the standards set under the new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. According to Professor Indrani Bhaduri, CEO of Parakh, this year a total of 75,565 schools and 22,94,377 students from 782 districts will participate in this survey, reported News18 Hindi.

A 24×7 war room has been set up at the NCERT headquarters to monitor the progress of this survey and to solve problems coming from the field. This war room has been operational since November 27 and will continue till December 5. Prof. Bhaduri said that teams working in shifts are deployed in this war room. There will be teams on the night shifts as well.

For this survey, a question paper has been prepared for the students, and a questionnaire for the teachers and school administration. In this, questions like “How do you come to school? Do you speak a different language at home which is different from the language of your teachers?” will be asked of the students. Apart from this, they will also be given exercises to understand the characters by reading short stories. Inputs will also be taken from teachers and schools in the survey, in which questions like “How is the support of parents for the studies of students in your school?” will be asked.
