The 97th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2. All eyes were on Jacques Audiard’s audacious musical as it was leading with 13 nominations. But it was the night for Sean Baker’s Anora. The film took home five Oscars including Best Actress, Best Director, Best Film, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing.
Emilia Perez, ended up with two awards. Zoe Saldana won Best Supporting Actress and the film also clinched an award for Best Original Song.
Conclave won the award in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay.
The only Indian entry, which made to the Oscars Shortlist is, Anuja – nominated for Best Live Action Short Film. The film lost to I’m Not Robot, crashing India’s hopes for this year. The film was backed by big names like Priyanka Chopra and two-time Oscar-winner Guneet Monga.
Adrien Brody was named best actor for The Brutalist, while Mikey Madison won best actress for Anora.
Kieran Culkin won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, for his role in A Real Pain. Zoe Saldana was named best supporting actress for her performance in Emilia Perez.
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien paid tribute to the heroes and victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.
The show opened with a performance by Wicked’s Oscar-nominated stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. In addition, Doja Cat, Lisa of Blackpink and Raye took part in a tribute to the music of the James Bond films. The show also featured a special appearance by the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
