Nagpur: The first anniversary celebration of ‘Open Dais’, an initiative by Swapnapurti Kala Kendra (SKK), unfolded magnificently on August 26 at Blind Relief Association’s hall on South Ambazari Road. Chief guest of the function was Dr Ved Prakash Mishra, pro-chancellor of Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research, University.
‘Open Dais’ emerged as a remarkable platform that transcends boundaries, fostering all genres of Indian classical performing arts. By providing a stage for both emerging and accomplished artists, the initiative continues to serve as a bridge between generations, encouraging young talents to shine. The event paid homage to Guru Kundanlal Gangani’s legacy, showcasing the programme’s commitment to preserving and promoting classical arts.
The celebration commenced with the presentation of mesmerizing Ganesh Stuti by students of SKK. A stunning Kathak performance on a Shyam bhajan was presented by Sandhya Pande Bhargava, a disciple of Pt Birju Maharaj. The highlight of the evening was enthralling Kathak performance by Pt Rajendra Gangani. With a spellbinding Shiv vandana, he embarked on a journey through various elements of the classical art form, leaving the audience enchanted.
His impeccable chakkars and intricate footwork were a testament to his mastery. The performance included ‘thaat’, ‘tode’, ‘tukde’, ‘upaj’, ‘paran’, and concluded with a soul-stirring bhajan. He was accompanied on tabla by Pt Fateh Sing Gangani, on vocal and harmonium by Samiullah Khan and on violin by Sirish Bhalerao.
SKK students who participated in the event are: Anushree Deshpande, Sonali Pawar, Alka Tiwari, Bhoomika Malpani, Neha Sahu, Saanvi Sahu, Ekta Bargath, Babita Daswani, Chandana Sahu, Vedika Nipane and Swara Kohale.
A unique element of the programme was live hand painting alongside the dance performances by Nana Misal. The event took a sentimental turn as all artists who had attended the past 12 editions of ‘Open Dais’ were felicitated by Pt Rajendra Gangani. The evening’s success was also attributed to the guidance of Guru Madan Pande, director of SKK.
The sponsors for the grand celebration were WCL, VICCO, and IFP. Dr Sangeeta Deshpande extended heartfelt gratitude during the vote of thanks. Ketaki Kane Salankar, Dhanashri Bendre Pathak compered the event, ensuring a seamless and engaging flow.
