Only 24 of Indian Employees Experience High Wellbeing At Work Study

Older employees express greater trust in employers’ commitment to wellbeing, global trend shows Indian businesses close to Global average

A recent joint report by Indeed and Forrester Consulting has highlighted that only 24 per cent of Indian employees experience high levels of wellbeing in their workplace.

This statistic underscores a significant generational divide, indicating that older employees tend to have more confidence in their employers’ commitment to employee wellbeing.

The report, which included 2,132 respondents in India, showcased that more than three-quarters of employees across Indian businesses reported lower levels of wellbeing. Interestingly, this trend is not unique to India, as globally, the percentage of thriving employees is also around 25 per cent.

For employees to be considered “thriving at work,” they need to exhibit characteristics such as high job satisfaction, low work-related stress, a strong sense of positivity and happiness, and a clear sense of purpose in their roles.

The study discovered that there are fewer thriving employees within the Gen-Z cohort (18 to 26-year-olds) at 20 per cent, compared to older Millennials (24 per cent) and Gen-X (27 per cent).

Additionally, the study revealed a generational gap in terms of trust in employers’ dedication to employee wellbeing. Among Gen-Z participants, 67 per cent believe that their employers connect wellbeing and happiness with business success. In contrast, the figures were higher among Millennials (78 per cent) and Gen-X (74 per cent).

Conducted by Forrester through an online survey commissioned by Indeed, this study aimed to evaluate the overall wellbeing of 18+ adults in the active workforce. This included individuals working full-time, part-time, or those unemployed for less than two years but open to new opportunities.
