Nagpur: A sea of saffron enveloped the city on Sunday as it eagerly anticipates the inauguration of Lord Rama’s new temple in Ayodhya on January 22. The public mood was a blend of devotion and festive fervour, with citizens engaging in various activities to prepare for the much-anticipated ‘Ram Diwali’ celebrations.
“It’s rare to find people wishing Sunday away, but today is an exception.We are eager to embrace Monday’s Diwali-like celebrations,” said Rushi Jirapure, an IT professional from Manewada, capturing the sentiment of many residents.

The day witnessed spontaneous bike rallies in the morning, followed by foot marches and palanquin processions of deities in the evening. Clad in the traditional saffron and yellow attire, citizens traversed the streets, chanting, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans. The cityscape itself bore witness to the festive spirit, adorned with saffron-coloured decorations, cutouts of Lord Rama, Ayodhya temple photographs, and welcome gates at various localities.
“The streets are alive with devotion and festivity. It feels like the entire city is preparing for a collective celebration,” said Kishor Ingle, professor.
“This event is a testimony to our faith. It’s heartening to see the city come together. I’m very happy to see how youths are getting attached to our cultural heritage,” said Sujata Sanap, a retired professional.
Women displayed enthusiasm as they actively participated in celebrations on Sunday, adding to the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Clad in saffron and yellow traditional attire, they joined bike rallies, foot marches, and palanquin processions. Many women took the initiative to adorn the streets with beautiful Rangolis and flower decorations, adding a distinctive touch to the festive ambiance. The upcoming grand celebration on January 22 is expected to witness continued active participation from women.
Every temple, big or small, across Nagpur commenced its celebrations, creating a collective atmosphere of reverence and anticipation. Temples are hosting bhajans, kirtans, Ramayana Path, Ram Katha, and many other events.
The Koradi Mahalaxmi temple is preparing to host a grand event featuring the preparation of 6,000kg sweet halwa as prasad by celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar. The ‘Hanuman Kadhai’ at the Koradi Mandir would witness this culinary spectacle, marking the significance of the day.
