Primary objective of the assessment is to gain a thorough understanding of the current state of physical facilities available at the institutions, requirements of improvement and potential challenges faced by the institutions. Besides, this assessment can help the government to strategically plan for the enhancement of the campus environment and overall learning experience for students all over the state.
In view of the above, the department wrote to principals of government degree colleges and TEIs on Wednesday to assess the available infrastructure of their institutions and basic requirements. After this, they will submit the information in the google sheet format before the department for further necessary action, said the official sources.
The department also requested the authorities of the government degree colleges and TEIs to submit the data within seven days.
According to the department, the authorities of the institutions will mention the name and contact details of the college along with its total land area on the top of the form. They will also give information regarding total number of students, courses (regular and self-financed courses) offered and student strength against courses.
In the infrastructure part, they will mention about available buildings with number of rooms, condition of laboratory, drinking water facilities, toilet facilities, accessibility (lift/ramp), drainage system, library, reading room and multipurpose hall.
The authorities will also mention in the form about the availability of auditorium/seminar hall, hostels (girls/boys) with bed capacity, boundary wall, playground, sports complex, internet connectivity, parking area, staff quarter and other facilities.
In the end, the principals of the college and TEIs will write about the requirements of the institution in detail with justification.
The state has 49 government degree colleges and 16 TEIs. A government college principal said most of the colleges do not have good and upgraded laboratory facilities, sports complexes and other required facilities. “After we get detailed information, the government will plan development of these institutions. It will help them to get good grades in the assessment of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC),” said a department official.
