Tottenham slumped to yet another defeat in a torrid season for the Londoners as Wolves hit four past the Spurs in a 4-2 triumph at the Molineux on Sunday in the English Premier League.

Wolves opened the scoring through Rayan Ait-Nouri early doors before Djed Spence’s own goal doubled Wolves’ lead. Matys Tel cut the arrears in half but Wolves re-established their two-goal lead as Jorgen Strand Larsen netted his side’s third of the night. Richarlison gave Tottenham something to fight for with a late strike, but Matheus Cunha slotted in the hosts’ fourth of the night to secure an emphatic triumph.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou opined that the game looked to be balanced for the ost part of it despite their 17th defeat of the ongoing season in the English top flight.

“Funny game because for the most part it was decent, considering the changes we made,” said Postecoglou.

“I thought we controlled large parts and were a bit of a threat going forward, but then we’ve conceded some poor goals,” the Spurs boss said.

“We made some individual errors, which is unusual for us, but they all happened in one game. It’s not like they are doing it on purpose,” the 59-year-old defended his players.

Spurs are languishing in 15th in the Premier League, leaving the Europa League as the last chance to save their season and possibly Postecoglou’s job.

They travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday for the second leg of their quarter-final with the tie finely poised at 1-1.

Wolves secured four successive top-flight wins for the first time since January 1972 with the victory.

Their survival in the Premier League is now close to being sure thanks to a significant upturn since ‘s appointment in December.

The win helped Wolves move up to 16th, ahead of West Ham, who conceded a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on the road earlier in the day, and two points adrift of Spurs in 15th and three points behind Manchester United in 14th following their 4-1 defeat at Newcastle.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira opined that his ambitions were loftier than just ensuring safety for the club and asserted the side’s desire to punch above their weight.

“If I start to speak about being safe, I don’t show my ambition,” the Portuguese manager said.

“I didn’t come to England to work just to avoid relegation, I’m not this kind of coach,” he continued.

“Mentally, we are strong. We feel that we can win and compete with the other teams,” Pereira added.
