New Delhi 2025 is slated to be held between the 26th of September and 5th October next year, marking the 14th edition of the Para Athletics World Championships.
New Delhi will host the Para Athletics World Championships in the year 2025 for the very first time in history as the World Para Athletics made the announcement to hold the prestigious event on Indian soil on Thursday.
New Delhi 2025 is slated to be held between the 26th of September and 5th October next year, marking the 14th edition of the Para Athletics World Championships.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, set to host the event, will also witness an inaugural World Para Athletics Grand Prix between the 11th and the 13 of March.
The premier event is set to go down as the largest international Para sporting event ever to take place in the peninsular nation.
India finished in the top six of the Para World Championships in the previous edition in Kobe, Japan 2024 for the first time with 17 medals including six gold.
“The National Paralympic Committee of India India is privileged to host the Para Athletics World Championships for the first time in India,” NPC India said in its statement.
“This historic event marks a significant milestone in India’s journey to becoming a global sporting powerhouse and strengthens our bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” the statement read.
The legacy such high-profile events could leave on a developing ecosystem such as India is well-documented and the NPC noted the impact the extravaganza would have on the nation.
“This prestigious championship will not only elevate India’s position on the global sports map but also play a pivotal role in accelerating the Paralympic movement within the country,” NPC continued.
“With a population of over 60 million persons with disabilities, this event is a crucial step in fostering inclusivity, empowering athletes, and expanding opportunities for athletes with disabilities.”
“We are excited to welcome athletes, coaches, and officials from around the world to showcase India’s unparalleled growth in the field of Para sports. This event will serve as a testament to India’s development, aligning with the vision of a “New India” as emphasized by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi,” the statement added.
