NEET UG 2025: The exam will revert to the pre-COVID format with 180 compulsory questions and a 3-hour duration.
NEET UG 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that the question paper pattern and exam duration for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2025 will return to the pre-COVID format. In an official notice released on Saturday, the NTA clarified that NEET UG 2025 will be conducted according to the original exam scheme, with the temporary changes introduced during the pandemic no longer in effect.
“All NEET (UG)-2025 aspirants are hereby informed that the question paper pattern and examination duration will revert to the pre-COVID format. where there will not be any Section B anymore,” reads official notice.
NEET UG 2025 Exam Pattern
A major change for NEET (UG)-2025 candidates is the removal of Section B, meaning the exam will no longer feature optional questions. The paper will consist of 180 compulsory questions—45 questions each in Physics and Chemistry, and 90 questions in Biology. Candidates will be required to answer all these questions within a 180-minute (3-hour) time frame, eliminating the extra time and optional question provisions that were temporarily introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the NTA has also clarified that the APAAR ID is not mandatory for the NEET-UG 2025 registration. In its previous notice on January 14, 2025, the NTA encouraged candidates to update their Aadhaar credentials and link their APAAR ID (formerly Academic Bank of Credits or ABC ID). However, the NTA has now confirmed that this is not a requirement for NEET UG 2025 registration.
