NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak: Supreme Court’s Key Observations

— The CJI on July 8 said that cancelling the NEET UG 2024 would be the last resort. “Cancelling the examination for 24 lakh students is an option of last resort and should be considered only under extreme circumstances,” the CJI noted.

— The CJI had earlier pointed out that if the NEET UG 2024 paper leak took place through social media, it is a possibility that the leak is wide. However, if the paper leak took place on the morning of the exam then the extent of it could be smaller.

— Observing that the sanctity of the NEET-UG 2024 has been “breached”, the top court said a re-test may be ordered if the entirety of the process is affected and sought details from NTA and CBI including the timing and manner of the paper leak “Let us not be in self-denial. Self-denial is only adding to the problem,” the CJI said. “One thing which is very clear is that the leak has taken place. That the sanctity of the exam has been breached is beyond doubt. The question is how widespread is the leak,” the bench observed.

— The bench highlighted that 67 candidates scored 720/720 but in previous years, the proportion was very low and this is certainly a red flag.
