A 19-year-old National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant, Indhu, died by suicide in Viluppuram after her father allegedly scolded her for a mistake while filling out an application form. The incident occurred while filing an OBC certificate application form, reported NDTV.

Indhu’s father, who was at a government centre for the application process, requested a PIN sent to her. She mistakenly provided the wrong PIN twice, causing her father distress. After successfully completing the application process, her father came back home and allegedly scolded her for the mistake.

It was earlier reported she died by suicide due to exam pressure but these claims were refuted by the police.

Earlier, in January, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Odisha allegedly hanged himself in his hostel room in Ambedkar Colony in Kota’s Vigyan Nagar area. Abhijeet Giri, a resident of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha, had been preparing for the NEET at a coaching institute since April 2024. This was the third suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year. The city, a prominent hub for coaching institutes, saw 17 such cases in 2024.

On January 7, 2025, two male students who were preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in Kota allegedly died by suicide in two separate incidents. During the first week of January, a 25-year-old coaching tutor was found dead in his rented accommodation in Kota’s Talwandi Sector – I of Jawahar Nagar area. The police suspected that he may have died by consuming some poisonous substance.
