The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has announced a historic achievement with an unprecedented surge in passenger traffic, reaching a remarkable 51.58 million in the calendar year 2023. This extraordinary milestone reflects a substantial 35 per cent growth compared to the previous year (2022) and marks a substantial 110 per cent recovery in passenger traffic compared to the pre-pandemic year 2019.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai witnessed an impressive 35 per cent surge in passenger traffic in the calendar year 2023, welcoming 51.58 million passengers compared to 38.33 million in the previous year. The airport also observed a 20 per cent growth in Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), making a total of 3,34,391 movements, which emphasizes CSMIA’s efficiency and excellence in aviation.
Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai retained their positions as the top domestic destinations, while Dubai, London, and Abu Dhabi continued to be the preferred international choices. CSMIA experienced its highest single-day passenger traffic on November 25, 2023, with 167,132 passengers, and achieved its highest-ever single-day Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) on November 11, 2023, with a total of 1,032 ATMs.
December 2023 witnessed the highest monthly traffic at 4.89 million, showcasing a growth of 13 per cent compared to December 2022. CSMIA expanded its international connectivity and added destinations like New York, Lagos, Jakarta, Entebbe, and Melbourne, strengthening its global network. Overall, the airport’s impressive growth, both in terms of passenger traffic and air traffic movements, reinforces its position as a leading airport in the country and the world.The Middle East dominated with a robust 35 per cent share in passenger traffic, closely followed by Australasia at 23 per cent. Europe held a substantial 19 per cent share, while North America and Africa contributed 15 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, highlighting CSMIA’s extensive global reach.
