Mokhare Nagar: Burglars decamp with 20 tolas gold | Nagpur News

Nagpur: The Jain family of Mokhare Mohalla was on Thursday, jolted by loss of their ancestral gold, around 20 tolas, and almost Rs 10 lakh in cash in a pre-dawn heist at their residence. What also left them shattered was the rude behaviour of Lakadganj police, who ended up having a raucous argument over valuation of stolen valuables. Mokhare Mohalla and its adjoining areas have been plagued with repeated robberies and ruckus by goons.
Apart from the emotional loss of family gold, the family was hurt by the manner in which the senior inspector of Lakadganj police station, Hemant Chandewar, stormed out of their house after telling them to turn up for a statement and lodge a formal complaint. The family, which owns a cable television business, sought help from the police brass.
The argument started after 78-year-old Laxmichand Jain and his 75-year-old wife, Chameli Bai, failed to furnish receipts and bills of ornaments they lost in the burglary. Laxmichand is bedridden after a paralytic attack.
The Jains said they left home on Tuesday to attend a family programme at a resort on Bhandara Road. On Thursday, they were shocked when informed by a neighbour that their front door locks were broken and the door was left ajar. They rushed back home and found an empty locker in the steel almirah in one of the bedrooms. An offence of burglary was registered against the burglars at Lakadganj police station.
