Milind Deora dismisses speculation about quitting Congress to join Shiv Sena led by Shinde | India News

MUMBAI: Senior Congress leader Milind Deora has dismissed rumors that he is leaving the party to join the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde.
While he acknowledged that he is holding discussions with his supporters, Deora stated that he has not made a decision yet. Responding to reports in the media, Deora called them mere rumors and clarified his stance.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) recently claimed the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency, which Deora had previously represented. This move did not sit well with the Congress leader, who expressed his displeasure in a video statement last Sunday. Deora emphasized that if such statements by an alliance partner persist, his party too can announce candidates for seats. It is important to note that formal talks on seat sharing are still ongoing between the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. Deora urged all parties involved to refrain from making premature claims or counter-claims until the discussions are concluded.
Milind Deora, the son of Congress veteran Murli Deora, has a strong connection to the Mumbai South constituency. He previously won the seat in 2004 and 2009, but faced defeat in the subsequent elections of 2014 and 2019 against Shiv Sena (Undivided) leader Arvind Sawant. Deora emphasized that his family’s representation of the seat spans 50 years and is not solely based on any particular “wave” of support.
In conclusion, Milind Deora has denied the rumors of his departure from the Congress party and joining the Shiv Sena. While discussions with his supporters are ongoing, he has not made a decision yet. The formal talks on seat sharing within the alliance are still underway, and Deora urges all parties to avoid premature claims.
