Filmmaker Milap Zaveri, an accomplished writer and director in his own right, shares a deep connection with filmmaker Rohit Shetty, reflecting on his genius and the impact he has on those around him. In a recent chat with Siddharth Kanan, he spoke about Shetty being a guiding factor in many ways, especially after the failure of Zaveri’s Satyameva Jayate 2.
Milap Zaveri says Rohit Shetty supported him by involving him with Singham even after Satyameva Jayate 2 bombed at box office: “He’s someone who shows faith in people, regardless of whether they are currently up or down”
When asked about Rohit’s faith in Arjun Kapoor as the villain when Kapoor’s movies have not worked in the past, Zaveri said, “Rohit Shetty is a genius. He’s someone who shows faith in people, regardless of whether they are currently up or down. Even I was in a low phase after Satyameva Jayate 2. But Rohit gave me a chance with Singham. Just like that, he saw talent and passion in Arjun Kapoor for Singham Again. He believed that Arjun Kapoor just needed the right opportunity, and that’s his genius. Once the film releases, we will see how right Rohit was. Rohit is not a genius for nothing; he is one of India’s biggest directors and a genuinely nice person. When he walks on set, the whole crew respects him. He supports everyone. He accepted Arjun into his family and believed he would add value to the film. Rohit believed in Arjun, and that’s what will reflect in the movie.”
He also said, “I was very lucky to have Rohit as a guiding factor. The team, like Shantanu Srivastava and all, wrote the dialogues. The beautiful elements inspired by Sanskrit and Ramayana were crafted by Shantanu. Rohit’s team includes great writers like Yunus Sajawal, who is a legendary screenwriter. They all listened when I presented my dialogues. I would call Sneha Shetty or Yunus at night and say, ‘I wrote this punchline; what do you think?’ They would help refine it, and then I’d present it to Rohit. It’s a team effort. I had my drafts ready a month before the film’s release, and he always respected my work.”
Singham Again is the fifth installment in Shetty’s franchise and is the direct sequel to Singham Returns (2014). The movie stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Dayanand Shetty, and Shweta Tiwari.
