It has been quite some time since a romcom came at the big screen, especially with hardcore dramas ruling the roost and anything in between just not working at the box office. In fact the industry has seen only four big grossers in the last four months (Pushpa 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Chhaava, Singham Again) which pretty much tells the tale. Hence, if Mere Husband Ki Biwi tries to make its presence felt then one just waits to see what best it can do.
In fact, pre-pandemic such genre did open in that Rs. 5-7 crores range at least. However with the advent of OTT, there have been a handful of grossers at theatres and that too when led by stars and superstars with a lavish mounting. Hence, with Mere Husband Ki Biwi being made at a controlled budget and with Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh and Bhumi Pednekar leading the show, there is some sort of a bare minimum start that’s expected from where word of mouth can take over.
In that aspect, Friday opening number of Rs. 1.75 crores has been fair indeed for the film. There was BOGO offer coming into play as well at select properties which gave the film some push. However there was some sort of interest that had actually build amongst the audiences as well which gave this Mudassar Aziz directed film an added push. What needs to be seen though is how does the momentum build today and tomorrow. That would be required for the film to aim for an eventual lifetime of Rs. 15-20 crores.
