As per SIAM’s vehicle recall database, Mercedes-Benz India has issued a recall for select units concerning the seventh-generation S-Class, majorly the Maybach version. The affected W223 lineup is currently on sale in the market since its launch in 2021. The recall was prompted by the software in the luxury sedan’s engine control unit (ECU) not meeting current specifications.

Falling short of the requirements, there could be a rise in exhaust temperatures, risking damage to components such as the engine wiring harness and catalytic converter. This could potentially cause unexpected propulsion loss and increased fire risk, noted the recall listing.
A total of 386 units of the S-Class Maybach manufactured between April 29, 2021 and January 27, 2024, and one standard S-Class manufactured on April 21, 2021, have been affected. As is usually the case, Mercedes is expected to contact the owners of the affected units to schedule an appointment for the fix, free of cost.
The S-Class range starts with S350d at Rs 1.77 crore (ex-showroom, India), going up to Rs 3.44 crore for the top-spec S 680 4Matic, which was recently updated with new features.
