Mercedes and BMW luxury car SUV sales 2024, luxury EV sales December 2024


The previous year seems to have been a good one for luxury carmakers in India, with the two most popular brands – Mercedes and BMW – announcing double digit growth and reporting record sales figures. During 2024, the Indian luxury car market is estimated to have grown by 6 percent, breaking the 50,000 mark for the first time to rack up 51,500 units in sales.

Mercedes continues its sales dominance in the luxury segment, with sales of 19,565 units during 2024. The brand reports that the top-end vehicle (TEV) segment – models that are priced over Rs 1 crore – grew by 30 percent year-on-year and accounted for one in every four cars sold by Mercedes. Its all-electric portfolio, which consisted of six models, increased by 94 percent compared to the previous year, contributing more than 6 percent to Merc’s total sales in the year.

The German company is looking to launch 8 new models this year, and has just announced prices for the G-Class electric (G 580 with EQ Technology) and the EQS SUV 450.

The BMW Group in India has retailed a total of 15,721 cars and SUVs during the previous year – BMW sold 15,012 units (registering a 13 percent increase), while Mini had sales of 709 units. The 3 Series was the brand’s highest-selling sedan accounting for 20 percent of total sales, while the X5 was its most popular SUV, helping BMW’s SUV sales to increase by 16 percent compared to last year. The more recently launched 5 Series LWB has already hit the 1,000-unit sales mark. BMW says that the iX is still its most sold EV, while the i7 (384 units), 7 Series (865 units) and X7 (1,570 units) are said to be the best selling models in their respective segments.
