Maruti eVX price, upcoming Maruti Suzuki models, Escudo and Torqnado trademarked

Maruti eVX price, upcoming Maruti Suzuki models, Escudo and Torqnado trademarked

Suzuki uses the Escudo name in Japan, but Torqnado seems to be all-new.

Maruti’s parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation has filed trademarks in India for two new names – Escudo and Torqnado – which could be used on two of the eight new models that Maruti Suzuki has planned for an India launch over the next four years.

We know some of these will be new generation models of existing nameplates like the Swift and the Dzire, while the production version of  first EV will likely carry over its concept name – the eVX.

However, there are five more models, which are currently only known by their internal model codes – a three-row SUV based on the Grand Vitara (Y17), an electric MPV (YMC), a budget electric hatchback (K-EV), a Tata Punch rival (Y43) and a three-row compact MPV (YDB) – which could ultimately use the trademarked names.

It’s important to note that trademarking a name does not guarantee its usage, but it’s just a measure to protect the right to use that particular name in the future. The said names were filed for trademark this January and have currently been registered. Although we don’t have any further details on these names, Suzuki uses the Escudo nameplate for the Vitara SUV in Japan, while Torqnado is an all-new name altogether.

New model launch timeline

Of all the new models lined up, the new-gen Swift and Dzire will be the first to launch. Both models are already undergoing testing in the country and the launch can be expected in a few months’ time. The eVX will debut in production guise by late-2024 and then go sale sometime early-2025. The other models will follow in a phased manner from 2025 onwards.
