The launch of the Maruti e Vitara has been delayed again, with chairman R C Bhargava confirming that deliveries of the electric SUV will begin by the end of September. When the e Vitara made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2025, Maruti’s first EV was expected to go on sale in March, which means that the launch has been delayed by about 6 months.

Why is the Maruti e Vitara launch delayed
The first delay of about 5 months was due to battery supply and software issues
It should be noted that this is the second major delay in the rollout of the Maruti e Vitara. We exclusively reported last year that the start of production of the e SUV had been postponed by at least 5 months due to multiple battery supply and software challenges. These issues pushed the start of production from September 2024 to February 2025.
Maruti Suzuki has yet to officially respond to our query regarding the reason for the second delay in the launch of the e Vitara. Naturally, this also means that the launch of Toyota’s version of the e Vitara, revealed as the Urban Cruiser EV, is likely to be delayed.
Maruti e Vitara India deliveries and exports
Nearly 70,000 e Vitaras are expected to be produced this year
Bhargava also said, “This year’s production [of the e SUV] will largely be exported. I think the annual production in the 6-7 months that we are talking about will be somewhere near 70,000 electric vehicles, the bulk of which will be exported.”
We’ve reported before that the e Vitara will be produced at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, and in January, at its Auto Expo debut, Maruti had said that 50 percent of production was earmarked for export to Japan and Europe. It now seems like a larger allocation has been earmarked for exports, with a smaller number being kept for domestic sales.

e Vitara on road price range expected to be Rs 20 lakh-30 lakh
With an estimated on road price of Rs 20 lakh-30 lakh, the e Vitara will directly go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric (Rs 17.99 lakh-24.38 lakh), Mahindra BE 6^ (Rs 18.90 lakh-26.90 lakh*), Tata Curvv EV (Rs 17.49 lakh-22.24 lakh*) and MG ZS EV (Rs 18.98 lakh-26.64 lakh*) in the Indian market. Maruti’s first EV will go on sale with 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options, and while international models will get an AWD version as well, this variant is unlikely to make it to India.
