The controversy surrounding the comments made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on the online show India’s Got Latent seems to be growing with each passing day. A lot of celebrities have also come forward and shared their views on the same. Now, lyricist and poet Manoj Muntashir has shared his views on the content of such shows in an interview with us.

What is your reaction to the entire controversy involving Ranveer Allahbadia’s highly objectionable remarks on parental sex?
I truly believe that what is being served in the name of content is a crime. It is not content in a country which has a boom of 68 percent of youth population, and we have to become a world leader by 2047. If our youth is such that they can produce such questionable content, and then some misguided sections clap for such content and consume such content, then I am very disheartened, and my hopes are shattered.
I believe Ranveer Allahbadia has said sorry
Then it is said that brother, this is a slip of tongue, well, this is a slip of tongue. Sorry, we don’t buy that. We also saw that it was not a slip of tongue, this was taken from some English comedy show. It was picked up verbatim, so any kind of apology is completely absurd. Apology for a slip of tongue happens, it definitely happens, but this is definitely not a slip of tongue. This is how he is, and he has shown his true face.
What about his freedom of speech?
It is sad when all this happens in the name of freedom of speech. What freedom of speech? Article 19(1) (A) says yes, freedom of speech for all. That is one thing and everyone is free to express their feelings. But if it comes to public order or decency and morality, then freedom of speech gets suspended.
I believe we need censorship on internet
Why is there no censorship on them? In a cinema hall, there is censorship to go and watch a movie in the theatre where reaching is a task in itself: you go, book a ticket, spend money, go to the theatre, there is distance…. you have protected and guarded it so much. But when we can take out our mobile from our pocket and watch any content, we are roaming around with poison in our pockets and there is no censorship on that, so the government agencies have to take the responsibility, they cannot shrug it off.
It seems strict action is being taken against the offenders
I am glad that action is being taken. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry also said that this is an actionable crime. Maharashtra Police also probably said the same. FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged and Himanta Biswa Sarmaji (Chief Minister of Assam) also said in a tweet that FIR has been registered against them.

The problem is that this vulgarity and shamelessness of one generation will become a tradition for the next generation if we do not call it out now, if we do not raise our voice against it now. You seem deeply affronted
We all should be. I feel ashamed that we are also content creators, we are creating content in our own way, and we have to subject this planet, this entertainment industry with this kind of filth. The food that comes on your table is checked by the food and drug department, which scans it and validates it, then it reaches our table. Likewise the thoughts that come to our mind, it is our content which determines our future condition and direction. Why is there no control over it? Why is there no authority? Who will take the responsibility for this?
The mind is a playground where you can do anything
The bandwidth of the mind is very limited. You can fill it with obscenity or sanskaar, it is your choice. You can keep nectar or fill poison in it, this is such a small cup of the mind. But the public has to take action right now. I mean the ball is in their court and I will appeal to everyone who is following me, who is listening to me, who has got even the slightest regards for me, just unsubscribe, unfollow and block this filth. You do not deserve this. Your children deserve better and you have to set the right example for them.
